BIO

Marcie Young Cancio is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Utah, where she designs and teaches innovative journalism and media courses that integrate critical journalism skills with hands-on community engagement. Her reimagined courses, including Voices of Utah and Community Storytelling for Radio and Multimedia, forge partnerships with local media outlets and community organizations to amplify voices in Utah. Young Cancio's teaching philosophy draws from extensive professional experience as a newspaper reporter, magazine editor, and multimedia managing editor at organizations including ABC7 News in San Francisco, Conde Nast in New York, and The Charlotte Observer. Before joining the University of Utah in 2023, she taught journalism and digital media at Salt Lake Community College.
