HEIDI HERRICK

Dr. Herrick anchor's her teaching on theory and practice. The readings, assignments, case studies, and exams in the classroom are designed to provide students with a safe place to practice and master critical thinking skills. Classes are structured around key theories to provoke constructive discussion by peaking studen'ts curisoity, fostering teamwork, and strengthening written and oral communication skills. Dr. Herrick believes that professors have a unique opportunity to help students find their voice. She creates opportunities for students to recognize and identify their strengths and gives them opportunities to practice writing and speaking to different audiences. In a generation where student's pride themselves on not readings books, Dr. Herrick requires her students to read from the best books every week. Sterling W. Sill said, 'what a great thrill it would have been to have studied at the feet of the great thinkers and leaders of the past.' Dr. Herrick's teaching philosophy emphasizes how books can be a time machine allow students to sit at the feet and learn from those great thinkers. In addition, to incorporating the latest technology into her classroom she also scours the best liteature in our field and incorporates readings from the best books designed to inspire another generation to love ideas that expand their minds and move the world. Her teaching philosophy is a mix of playful experimentation with ideas and tools that bring the concepts we teach off the pages into real life with hands-on learning.
