TEACHING INTERESTS
My teaching philosophy employs Malcolm Knowles’ theory of andragogy by using strategies specifically for education of adults. 1) need to know (give a reason), 2) foundation experience, including errors, 3) self-concept, responsibilities 4) readiness (relevance to work for their lives), 5) orientation, problem centered, 6) internal motivation is best. Pedagogy originally meant Greek “child leading.”
Andragogy perspective treats students as adults, meaning, they are given adult responsibilities, decision making powers and opportunities for self-direction. They don’t appreciate being told what to do. It must be practical to their lives.
