BIO

Dr. Whitty has over 30 years’ experience researching advanced thermal energy systems including technologies for combustion, gasification, and CO2 capture. His research focuses on bridging the gap between lab-scale experiments and industrial applications and involves pilot scale process development, fundamental studies of reaction processes, and computational modeling. He has designed research systems ranging from 300 kW to 4 MW, including three 1-2 ton/day gasifiers at the University of Utah. He has also developed novel systems for measurement and sampling in harsh environments. Dr. Whitty has been principal investigator of more than fifty government- and industry-sponsored programs, led the IEA Bioenergy Task on biomass gasification for six years, is scientific advisor to the Swedish Energy Agency’s biomass gasification council, has presented his work at invited lectures and conferences around the world, and has published his research in high-impact journals.
