BIO

F. Mira Green is an Assistant Professor of Ancient Mediterranean History whose research examines how everyday life shaped and reflected systems of power in the Roman world. Her work focuses on the intersection of slavery, gender, embodiment, domestic labor, and material culture, exploring how ordinary practices such as cooking, eating, household work, and bodily care contributed to the construction of social hierarchies in Roman society. Drawing on archaeological evidence, Roman literature, and theories of lived experience, Green investigates the lives of people often marginalized in ancient sources. Her scholarship highlights the ways domestic spaces functioned as important arenas for negotiating status, identity, and power, offering new perspectives on inequality and social relations in the ancient Mediterranean. She is the author of Mastering the Body: Daily Life, Inequality, and Slavery in Roman Homes and Society and has published research on Roman slavery, sexuality, food practices, material culture, and the social meanings of everyday life
