My teaching draws directly from American social dances based in individual expression, group dynamics, musicality, polyrhythm, poly-tension, and dynamic tempo changes. These ideas work in tandem within shape and line to create myriad of movement outcomes. I strive to incorporate the inherent knowing of the student, where the doing of movement becomes the space for discovery. As I continue to challenge a Eurocentric vision/structure/philosophy of the classroom, I find that notions of individuality for each student can be a strong element that builds a dynamic open movement practice.
