SCOTT SCHAEFER

Professor Schaefer teaches economics and strategy with an emphasis on applying economic reasoning to real managerial and organizational problems. He has taught undergraduate, MBA, Executive MBA, PhD, and online courses in microeconomics, competitive strategy, organizational economics, and personnel economics. He has won thirteen teaching awards, including Kellogg’s Sidney J. Levy Teaching Award three times and University of Utah teaching awards at the undergraduate, master’s, Executive MBA, and Online MBA levels.

His teaching frequently connects economic models to current events, business decisions, data, and cases. He is co-author of Economics of Strategy and co-created the Roadside MBA project, which uses interviews with business owners and managers to illustrate economic principles in practice.
