Megan M. Reynolds is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Utah. She holds a PhD in sociology from Duke University. Dr. Reynolds’ research examines the patterning of health to understand processes of stratification and their consequences. She is particularly interested in the role of power, politics, and policy in influencing well-being at large and among vulnerable segments of the population. To advance this research, she has authored a theory of ‘health power resources’ that aims to provide an explanatory framework for how contemporary power relations influence health and health inequalities. A major focus of her most recent empirical work is the overall generosity of US social and labor-market safety nets and how such generosity affects health at and across various stages of the life course. This research has been supported by awards from NICHD, NIA, and NIMHD and has been published in Social Forces, Journal of Health Politics, Policy & Law, JAMA Pediatrics, and American Journal of Public Health.
