Dr. Hallar's research is using high quality measurements of trace gases, aerosol physical and chemical properties, and cloud microphysics to understand connections between the biosphere, atmosphere, and climate, along with the impact of anthropogenic emissions on these connections.  

Atmospheric aerosols impact climate, air quality, visibility, and human health. Impacts remain uncertain because of our inability to accurately estimate the spatial and temporal distributions of aerosol mass, number concentrations, size, and composition. My research focuses on data driven aerosol science, specifically using statistics to elucidating trends in aerosol mass, number concentrations, size, and composition by combining numerous observational platforms. This research requires different measurement techniques (in situ, off-line samples, and remote sensing – from surface, satellite and aircraft). My work has focused on identifying and quantifying the sources of aerosols in the Western U.S. (specifically dust, smoke, biological aerosols & new particle formation as drivers).
