Before becoming an academic, I worked for several years as a freelance writer, environmental journalist, and in publishing at the Knopf Group in New York. Though the arts remain central to my interests, my academic training across the humanities commits me to cross-disciplinary thinking with the belief that we should bring all available knowledge to the problems we're trying to understand.
