BIO

I am an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Utah. Prior to joining Utah in 2020, I was a Post-Doctoral Fellow with the Center for Inter-American Policy and Research at Tulane University, and received my PhD from the Department of Government at Cornell University. My research interests lie in comparative politics, specifically on identity, inequality, and citizenship, with a regional focus on Latin America.

My book, Back to Black (Cambridge University Press, 2024), explores the consequences of educational expansion for the politicization of racial identities and political behavior in Brazil. This book was the recipient of the Donna Lee Van Cott Book Award from the Latin American Studies Association, and a Best Book Award from the Race, Ethnicity, and Politics Section of the American Political Science Association. My research articles have been published in World Politics, Comparative Political Studies, and Latin American Politics and Society.
