RESEARCH INTERESTS

Since entering academia in 2012, I have secured approximately $7.8 million in externally funded research support from federal and state agencies and the mining industry. During my appointment at the University of Utah (2021–2025), the period under review, I obtained $4.5 million in competitive research funding. Prior to this, while serving at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), I secured an additional $3.3 million in external support. These funded projects have provided significant experiential learning opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students through mine-site data collection, applied research, and advanced data analytics. Student-led efforts have resulted in the development of predictive mine models that improve operational efficiency and help identify adverse and hazardous conditions in both surface and underground mining environments.

My scholarly and professional contributions reflect a sustained commitment to advancing mining engineering research, education, and industry practice. I have authored more than 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and over 34 peer-reviewed conference papers, and I have delivered more than 40 technical presentations at invited meetings, workshops, and professional forums. In parallel, my consulting and international auditing work has included the preparation of more than 30 professional mining reports for industry partners, government agencies, and consulting organizations across North America and Europe. Collectively, these activities demonstrate strong research productivity, meaningful student engagement, and impactful service to the mining industry at the national and international levels.
