RESEARCH INTERESTS
Jörg Rügemer’s research focuses on highly energy-efficient, cost-effective building design, integrated systems, and post-occupancy performance monitoring. His work is supported by grants from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building America Program, the Boston Society of Architects (BSA), the AIA Upjohn Award program, the University of Utah, Rio Tinto Kennecott Copper Utah, as well as through his own atelier and private clients.
Supported by fellowships from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research), Rügemer served as a visiting professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) during the 2014–2015 academic year, where he focused on net-zero and active building design strategies. In fall 2021, he conducted a research field study along the Croatian coast examining postwar mass tourism projects from the former Yugoslavia. These projects now inform his graduate design studios at the University of Utah’s School of Architecture, where students consistently earn AIA Utah and national design awards.
