RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research focuses on the restaging of classical ballet masterpieces for contemporary audiences, particularly the works of Marius Petipa (1818–1910), including Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, La Bayadère, and Don Quixote. Under the mentorship of former Mariinsky Ballet Artistic Director Oleg Vinogradov, I have studied Petipa’s choreographic structures, movement vocabulary, and narrative techniques, ensuring historical authenticity while adapting these works for modern theatrical contexts.
Beyond classical restaging, my research explores choreographic innovation by integrating diverse movement traditions, including martial arts and contemporary dance. My recent large-scale production, Carmen (2022), incorporated interdisciplinary artistic influences to enhance storytelling and audience engagement. Through such projects, I aim to make ballet more accessible and relevant to diverse audiences while preserving its artistic depth.
Additionally, I am engaged in biomechanical and digital analysis of ballet movement, collaborating with the University of Utah’s Departments of Kinesiology and Mechanical Engineering. By applying motion capture and AI-driven analysis, my research seeks to enhance ballet training methodologies, injury prevention, and choreographic exploration. Merging traditional artistry with technological advancements, I strive to expand ballet’s creative and pedagogical possibilities for the 21st century.
