KERRY MAGISKE

My teaching philosophy centers around building relationships with students, helping students to make connections, fostering engaged learning, and providing students opportunities to develop skills and competencies to help individuals meet their health goals. Building relationships with students includes learning about their backgrounds, goals, and interests. I want to personally connect with each student so that they know they have an advocate and mentor in me.  I help students make connections to what we are learning by bringing the material to life by emphasizing the practical relevance of the concepts learned. I actively engage students in the learning process and use a student-centered approach, including small and large group discussions and team assignments where the practical relevance of the material is emphasized. Furthermore, I believe it is important for the activities to foster student collaboration and reinforce the notion that this classroom is a team. I support the students in building conceptual and hands-on skills and competencies to apply health and kinesiology knowledge and best practices when working with clients.  I am passionate about teaching and working with students inside and outside the classroom.  I love promoting healthy lifestyles and the science behind exercise as medicine.
