BIO
I am interested in the (still) new discipline of data science: the methodology and engineering behind managing, analyzing, and communicating ethical and useful decisions informed by data. This is a broad area driving almost every academic descipline. My research focuses on the many facets of this, guided by a background in algorithms and geometry, driven by discovering and formalizing the "best" solutions for problems, but with strong interest to apply these developments in many domains. Complenting this, I have developed much of the data science curriculum at the University of Utah, including the BS in Data Science, several certificates, and a number of specialized programs. I teach some of the core and required courses for these programs within the Kahlert School of Computing. I also director of the Utah Center for Data Science (https://datascience.utah.edu/) which attempts to help organize these many efforts at the U.
