BIO
As a nursing educator, researcher, and mentor, I am passionate about advancing evidence-based practice, geriatric nursing, and person-directed care to improve outcomes for older adults and vulnerable populations. With a PhD in Nursing and a Master’s in Gerontology, I integrate aging, healthcare systems, and population health into nursing education to prepare students for competency-based and person-directed care.
As Chair of the Baccalaureate Curriculum Committee, I lead efforts to enhance curricula by incorporating best practices in person-directed care, social determinants of health, and transitions of care. My research explores palliative and dementia care, age-friendly education, and simulation-based learning, with a focus on reducing ageism, improving interdisciplinary collaboration, and strengthening nursing education.
Beyond teaching and research, I am committed to service and mentorship. I advise the Sigma Phi Omega Alpha Chi Chapter, serve as co-treasurer for Sigma Theta Tau Gamma Rho, and contribute to state and national aging initiatives, including the Utah State Plan Task Force for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD). I also support student research and professional development through UROP grants and faculty mentorship.
As a fellow of the Academy of Health Science Educators and a recipient of the Excellence in Mentorship in Nursing Education Award, I strive to create engaging, supportive learning environments that empower students and faculty alike.
