RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research focuses on the Methodology of Immersive Design-Build Education, investigating how direct engagement with the physical environment and rural communities can transform architectural pedagogy. I examine how hands-on construction acts as a catalyst for social responsibility, shifting the educational focus from purely technical skills to deep community impact.
A key component of this research is developing frameworks for Cross-Cultural Competency within post-colonial contexts. By structuring specific communication protocols between students and Dine home recipients and implementing a "Sweat Equity" model, I analyze how architecture can foster empathy and mutual ownership.
Furthermore, I explore Haptic Learning and Reflective Practice. I investigate how physical interaction with vernacular materials—specifically natural earthen plaster—and hand-sketching serve as primary methods for "embodied memory," allowing students to internalize the cultural and environmental nuances of a place. Additionally, I evaluate the "Learning-by-Teaching" model, demonstrating how orchestrating diverse volunteer ecosystems reinforces students' technical mastery and leadership capabilities.
