My research focuses on educational interventions for individuals with multiple and severe disabilities who have visual impairment, including deafblindness. My recent work is mostly focused on approaches to support communication skill development of learners who would benefit from augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) but for whom much of the AAC research is not applicable given their unique accessibility needs due to neuromuscular and/or sensory disabilities. I use systematic reviews to identify gaps in and trends in the existing research literature, qualitative methods to identify and analyze what is or is not being used and/or working in practice, and single case experimental methods to test specific teaching interventions and adaptations.
