BIO

Daniel Zwangsleitner is an architect, urban designer, and educator whose work combines spatial design with ecological research and critical analysis of urban and territorial transformations. He develops design approaches that respond to the intertwined social, ecological, and material challenges of the contemporary polycrisis and the evolving conditions of the Anthropocene.

Daniel defines his work as strategic practice, which encompasses various outputs including studios, seminars, publications, exhibitions and interventions. His approach integrates collective and individual agency, blending spatial practice with research, teaching, and political engagement. In light of current environmental, geopolitical, and social challenges, he aims to reconcile urbanism, design and architecture with civic engagement. He works with students, researchers, and community partners in inter- and trans-disciplinary assemblages to develop design practices and strategies that promote social-ecological transformation towards a more collaborative, just, and sustainable way of living.

He advocates for a teaching methodology rooted in research-driven design, asserting that educators and universities have a responsibility to actively address the challenges of our world. This involves empowering young practitioners and researchers with the essential critical skills and design tools they need to meet the challenges of today and the future.
