BIO
Dr. Samir Monges is a scholar whose work examines the intersections of language, philosophy, and education through critical theories. His research focuses on linguistics, multilingualism, and equity in higher education, investigating how institutions can foster inclusion while resisting the suppression of critical thought.
He explores the interplay of language, power, and identity, particularly for historically underrepresented and multilingual students in community colleges. His scholarship addresses language pedagogies, college access, and student success, highlighting how societal power structures and colonial legacies shape educational experiences. A central focus of his work is translanguaging pedagogy—leveraging students’ full linguistic repertoires as assets to enhance learning. His dissertation analyzes the design and implementation of translanguaging practices in linguistically diverse classrooms, offering practical insights for educators in higher education.
Dr. Monges also researches community college leadership and educational policy, emphasizing how transformational and culturally responsive leadership can dismantle barriers for multilingual and marginalized populations. Drawing on critical leadership theory, his work examines how institutional leaders and networks promote inclusive practices and greater social mobility.
